Sump Pumps: How To Keep Your Basement Dry

In our local area of Gilberts — and throughout the northern Illinois suburbs — we all know it can get quite hot during the summer months. Thankfully, we provide excellent professional AC repair and AC installation services to keep you cool during those times.

But — there are also cooler, rainier days. You know, the kind that bring some welcome relief from the humidity and heat. However, with those rains can come issues… especially if the water that accumulates doesn’t drain away from your home’s foundation!

If water finds its way into your basement, it causes a lot of problems, many of which build up slowly over time. This includes mold, mildew, and even damage to your personal belongings. Installing a sump pump in your basement can help, and G&R Heating and Air can take care of it for you! A professional sump pump installation will help you rest easy knowing that your basement is moisture free.

How Do Sump Pumps Help Keep Your Basement Dry?

Sump pumps are a relatively “simple” machine in general, but they do require proper installation and maintenance to work at optimal capacity. They are usually installed in the lowest spot in your basement or crawlspace. As water enters the area, your sump pump pushes the water up, out, and away from the house. Then — when the water reaches a certain level — a float activator in the sump pit causes the sump pump to turn on. It then removes the accumulated water from the structure.

Another way of looking at sump pumps: the system is similar to the float setup found in your toilet! However, instead of flushing water, your sump pump pushes the water up and out through a discharge pipe on the exterior of your home.
